PAT MONROE ANTIQUES "The new look of antiques is lighter and more refreshing. Intermixing antique chairs or an antique table in a contemporary setting or vice-versa results in a pleasing, interesting room," relates Pat.
Situated in downtown Austin, antique furniture and decorative arts show to their best with the natural light from the large windows at the front Pat Monroe's antique store. Specializing in French antique furniture, Pat evaluates each piece with the discerning eye of an artist and designer, creating the look of casual elegance for which the antique gallery is known. Her connections to some of Europe's finest sources enable her to have first choice for her clients. She looks for antiques that are rare or uncommon and that possess a stylish chic. Each piece must meet the essential characteristics of authenticity, fine quality of material and workmanship, beauty and be in excellent condition.
Pat's first love is French antiques. Solid French buffets or curvilinear French chairs and bergéres and beatifully patinaed walnut French dining tables catch her eye. And if it is a rare French antique or unusual that is a strong plus.
Though she is specializing in French antique furniture, Pat's collection has beautiful, subtlely-colored Swedish antiques and handsome, mahogany English tables and an English Linen Press at present. Italian antiques also are spotted about the gallery with gilt, heavily carved frames of an Italian Sofa or Italian lighting.
The commonality among the various antiques is the tasteful, attractive, and artistically pleasing quality of these fine antiques.
ABOUT Pat Monroe
I grew up an artist and painted portraits for many families in Austin & Texas. French antique furniture became a fascination, when my husband, Bill, and I would travel. My love for history made the antiques so relevant. While traveling Europe we would find distinctive and authentic pieces of antique furniture and would ship them back to our home in Austin. Antique furniture and the decorative arts soon became my constant pursuit and I loved it. Specializing in French antique furniture , I love the lyrical lines, ornate or simple, painted or original wood attract me. I have an eye for artistic and authentic antiques. It defines my collection. The Austin antique furniture venue has been the perfect place for this new lighter look in antiques.
